Lucky for all G&T fans, the 19th of October, is International Gin and Tonic Day!

For those who don’t know, a Gin and Tonic is one of the most popular cocktails in the modern world. It consists of a measure of gin, ice, and tonic water. Once those base components are met, the cocktail maker can get creative with garnishing’s like mulberries, rosemary or even citrus.

Oddly enough, the now popular cocktail was originally meant to be seen as a treatment for malaria owing to the quinine in the tonic water. Since there is no quinine in tonic water that you see in shops now, it is safe to assume that your weekend G&T might not have any bygone health benefits, not that that makes it any less enjoyable. G&T day was inspired by an American woman who enjoyed Gin and Tonics so much that her family used to smuggle G&T’s into the hospital for her. The Gin fanatic Mary Edith Kayburn died on the 19th of October in 2010 and her loved ones founded the day in her honor!

Will you be making a G&T this week? If so, send us a picture of your creation to feature on our social media!
