3 Haunted Distilleries and Recommended Whiskeys

The first of the haunted distilleries on our list is The Crolly Distillery (Croithlí in Irish) in the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht. During the Irish War of Independence, the location of the distillery served as a temporary barracks for British soldiers. One night a soldier was shot and killed while standing at an upstairs window. At the spot where blood from his fatal wound seeped into the floor, a pool of blood continued to mysteriously appear. Regardless of multiple attempts to remove the bloodstains, the marks persisted, seeping through the floor. Such spooky stories have added to the intrigue and enjoyment of visitors to the distillery.

Matthew McManus is said to roam the premises, keeping a watchful eye on all that happens. His son, John, has also been seen on the property. A medium who visited the distillery claims that John cannot find peace following his execution by the British in 1798. People also see a shadowy figure clad in a black robe has been seen lurking in the courtyard. This spirit might be connected to a Cistercian abbey that once existed in the area and was dissolved in 1539. Strange noises and the sound of footsteps have been reported coming from vacant lofts, and whispers are often heard when the building is silent.
