Is Whiskey Good For Weight Loss?

It is a new year, which means that many people have made a resolution or two a few weeks ago. Did you know that statistics say that the number one resolution for 2022 was weight loss? Well, you’ll be happy to know that most people continue drinking, even if they do start out on a diet. If that sounds like something you’d do, whiskey is the drink for you!

Why Would We Recommend Whiskey For Weight Loss?

Well, whiskey contains no carbohydrates, no fats and even no sugars. Although most unflavored whiskey is made from natural sugars, during the fermentation process and the distillation process, those sugars are converted into ethyl alcohol. Ethyl alcohol is the simplest form of alcohol out there, and contains none of the things dieters tend to avoid like those fats and carbs. As such, multiple studies have indeed found that whiskey can help you on your way to weight loss. Further to our point, there are only about 100 calories in 1.5 ounces of your average 86-proof whiskey.

While whiskey may not be considered the health drink that it once was, research also suggests that whiskey’s considerable ellagic acid content may also reduce inflammation of the body and lower the risk of obesity. Funnily enough, ellagic acid is a natural antioxidant that can be found in many basic fruits and vegetables. Likewise, antioxidants have been proven to slow or prevent damage to the cells in your body.

Does How You Drink It Matter?

Now, we can’t promise that if you make a sugary cocktail that whiskey will still be a weight loss wonder. Your best bet is to drink your whiskey straight, on the rocks or with some sort of sparkling water. Besides, we think that sipping quality Irish Whiskey straight is the best way to taste it anyway. Here is an inexhaustive list of our recommended whiskeys for drinking straight:
