The Whistler 21YO Single Malt Madeira Finish

This special bottling tells the story of the passing of time with the Whiskey representing the sun. On the back label we state that this whiskey has been aged no less than 7665 sunrises and sunsets.

This whiskey is initially matured in Bourbon Barrels for a minimum of 20 years, then finished in casks for 18 months that previously held Justino’s Madeira Malvasia fortified wine.

Justino’s 20YO Madeira Malvasia

In this tale of the passing of wine the Madeira represents the moon and has been aged for no less than 260 astro moon cycles. Two 20YO Madeira Malvasia casks were selected, cask 26 and 27. These casks were originally cognac casks with a volume of 350lts and made from Quercus Robur French Oak.

Harvested in 1999, these Madeiras use the Malvasia De Sao Jorge (North Coast) grape, and are aged using the Canteiro’ method.

Tasting Notes:

54.5% ABV. Non-Chill Filtered. Natural Colour.

Nose:

A savoury and vibrant nose, with wonderful hazelnuts and caramel on approach, followed by enticing apple blossom and vanilla aromas, with a touch of fresh herbs in the backround.

Palate:

A rich and decedent palate, with spiced cracked pepper on entry, followed by delightful peaches and cream, backed by savoury umami undertones.

Finish:

A long, chewy and satisfying finish, with a unique and fresh minerality, truly showcasing the characteristics of the island of Madeira.

Justino’s 20YO Madeira Malvasia 50cl

Tasting Notes:

19.5% ABV. Non-Chill Filtered. Natural Colour.

Nose:

Elegant and complex aroma. Tobacco, candied orange peel, pine, resin and spices on the nose.

Palate:

Black pepper, caramel, toffee, tea leaves and toasted caramel on the palate with a good acidity balanced by a nice sugar content.

Finish:

Overall, it is a medium sweet with a long and quite interesting salty finish.
