Tasting notes below for the Writers Tears 2020 Cask Strength.
The 2020 vintage is the 10th annual release of this super-premium expression from Walsh Whiskey. It is Ireland’s most unique cask strength whiskey as it is a rare vatting of aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt Whiskey. Writers’ Tears Cask Strength is triple distilled, natural non-chill filtered, carefully aged in bourbon barrels and bottled, this year, at 54.5% ABV. The 2020 release is limited to just 3,000 individually numbered bottles.
Bottled in 2017 at 53%, a vatting of Single Pot Still and Single Malt, distilled 3 times and carefully aged in American Oak Casks. Each year Bernard Walsh selects a handful of exceptional casks to make this the benchmark for Super Premium Cask Strength Irish Whiskey. It is available in strictly limited quantities, with only 5280 bottles produced in 2017.
The 2019 vintage is the 9th annual release of this super-premium expression from Walsh Whiskey. It is one of Ireland’s most unique cask strength whiskeys as it is a rare vatting of aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt Whiskey. Writers’ Tears Cask Strength is triple distilled, natural non-chill filtered, carefully aged in Bourbon barrels and bottled at 53% ABV. The release is limited to just 3,780 individually numbered bottles, signed by Walsh Whiskey Founder and Managing Director – Bernard Walsh.
Writers’ Tears Double Oak is the latest addition to the Writers Tears range. A blend of Single Malt and Single Pot Still Whiskey matured in American Oak Bourbon barrels and French Oak Cognac casks. It is triple distilled, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV.
Writers’ Tears Copper Pot Marsala Cask Finish is a limited release from Walsh Whiskey. A blend of single pot still and single malt whiskies which are finished in Marsala wine hogshead casks from the Florio winery of Sicily. A delicious cask strength whiskey with an ABV of 45%.
Writers’ Tears Red Head is a triple-distilled single malt that is matured in select handpicked Spanish sherry butts which have previously been seasoned with the finest Oloroso sherry. It is the influence of these scarce butts that give this expression of Writers’ Tears its signature rich, ruby hue and hence the nickname – ‘Red Head’. The expression is distilled without chill filtering and at 46% ABV.

A unique marriage of single pot still and single malt Irish whiskey, triple distilled exclusively in copper pot stills. Following full maturation, Writers’ Tears Copper Pot is finished for an additional nine months in Deau XO Cognac casks. These casks are made of French Oak from the Allary cooperage and seasoned for up to 15 years Deau XO by the Legaret family. This a limited release.

The release is limited to just 5,175 individually numbered bottles, signed by Walsh Whiskey Founder and Chief Executive – Bernard Walsh.
