Ireland’s First Co-located Brewery and Distillery
Founded by husband and wife team, Sam and Maud Black, Blacks of Kinsale began as a home brewing hobby and grew into a successful business. Sam Black, originally from New Zealand, moved to Ireland and discovered a passion for brewing beer. This hobby soon turned into a serious endeavor, and in 2013, the couple decided to take the leap and establish Blacks Brewery.
They started with a small setup, producing craft beers that quickly gained popularity due to their unique flavors and high quality. Encouraged by their success and driven by a passion for innovation, the founders expanded their operations to include distillation in 2015. This marked the birth of Blacks Distillery, where they now produce a range of spirits, including gin, rum, and whiskey.
Blacks of Kinsale Distillery’s Portfolio
One of the standout products from Blacks of Kinsale is their Irish Gin, which combines traditional botanicals with locally sourced ingredients to create a refreshing and aromatic spirit. They have experimented with flavours to expand their range, including a crisp and modern Apple and Kiwi Gin. Their rum offerings are also notable, crafted with a dedication to quality and a touch of Irish character. This can be seen in their Spiced Apple Rum.

The first new Distillery in Dublin in over 125 years

USA Spirits Rating
A USA Spirit Ratings medal represents the pinnacle of recognition in the international spirits industry. Blacks proudly secured the prestigious Gold medal for their Blacks Irish Gin, making it one of just two Irish gins to earn this honor, along with a Silver medal for their Blacks Golden Rum at this esteemed competition.
European Beer Challenge
The annual European Beer Challenge brings together Europe’s leading beer buyers and top beers from across the globe. Blacks of Kinsale were honoured to accept double gold at the European Beer Challenge for their innovative Maui Wowie High P.A. and also their World’s End Imperial Stout. They also won silver for their flagship beer, Kinsale Pale Ale (KPA).
The World Rum Awards
The World Rum Awards are the leading global rum awards, which select the very best in all of the internationally recognised styles. Blacks of Kinsale accepted the award for ‘World’s Best Column Still Rum Five Years and Under’. Blacks Golden Rum was the only rum to win Gold in its category and the only Irish spirit to make the winners list.
